  • Handmade Swords - The Quest of the Metal Worker's Spirit Through the Ages By:-Ben Rial
Might it perhaps be that a little portion of the blacksmith’s spirit is imparted within every blade? Just maybe the long saga of the bladesmithing occupation takes with it tiny pieces of every bladesmith that has taken up the challenge smithing creates? That one way or another a particular psychic element injects the energy of the smith in each blade he has created. Is that all unprovable nonsense? I don't know, but then again, maybe not. I can’t help but detect a difference when I labor on a sword. As if in some way I transform and feel as if I have somehow, in some way or manner joined with the fire, steel, and hammer, although it is merely a transitory feeling.
  • Handmade Knives - The Peregrination of the Metal Worker's Spirit Through the Ages By:-Ben Rial
Might it possibly be that a little piece of the blacksmith’s spirit is imparted within every knife? Mayhaps the ancient record of the blacksmithing profession takes with it tiny portions of each bladesmith that has taken up the art of the hammer? That one way or another a certain metaphysical force implants the energy of the metal worker in each blade he has produced. Is that altogether romantic foolishness? Conceivably, but then again, conceivably not. I can’t help but observe a difference whilst I hammer on a blade. As if in a particular sense I transcend and become one with the conflagration of coal fire, metal, and hammer, even though it is only a fleeting feeling.
